Growing up we called these stink berries. Cause if you step on them it smells really bad. For some reason they like to plant them near schools.
I found out later that they are fruits from the gingko tree. Around this time of year you’ll see little old Chinese ladies collecting the fallen fruit. I believe they make tea out of it.
